FLY RIVER CUP COORDINATORS EXPRESS INTEREST TO PLAY PORT MORESBY TEAMS

The Inaugural Fly River Cup rugby league tournament’s select side is seeking friendly matches against PNGRFL Port Moresby based franchises.

This is following the successful conclusion of the tournament last Friday.

Daru Barramuindi’s walked away as the inaugural winners with the coveted trophy and K20, 000 over Kiunga Catfish who settled with K10, 000.  In the third placing the boys from the mining township of Kiunga, the Kiunga Hondas were too strong for Dibili Pukpuks. Both teams walked away with K7, 000 with determination to return stronger next year.

Tournament Director, Chris Mel expressed satisfaction on the tournament outcome as they plan for a trip over to Port Moresby.

A selected team out from the tournament will be traveling to Port Moresby to play friendly matches with expressions already sent to Central Dabaris, Hela Wigmen and Vipers. 

 “This is the first year of Fly River Cup Tournament and we have faced some difficulties and challenges along the way. We will work to polish for the next one to be bigger and better next year,” Mel said.

He further acknowledged the sponsors of the tournament, Western Provincial Government, Patron of this Fly River Cup Tournament and the Governor of Western Province, Taboi Awi Yoto for providing the leadership.

He said the support from sponsors like OK Tedi Mining Limited, WP Engineering, Mineral Resources Development Company, Sustainable Development Program and Dokana Papua Group, made this a significant event for community development.
