Police along the Kainantu section of the Highlands Highway have found a body of a man believed to be in his 30s who was brutally murdered around 5.30 am today.
Police said the deceased is believed to be a member of a group that was involved in a drunk brawl against another group at the Singsing Creek area, bordering the Markham district of Morobe and Eastern Highlands Province.
Police arrived at the scene and gathered information surrounding the cause of the crime and the corpse was later transported to Ramu Hospital in Madang.
According to police reports, many have also suffered from injuries as a result of the incident between the two groups from Markham and Kasup.
Police investigations are underway and through unconfirmed information, the deceased is said to be from the Kasup area in Obura Wonenara district of Eastern Highlands Province.
As investigations continue, police are urging the public to take precaution when travelling past this section of the highway as the situation remains tense.
