Prime Minister James Marape has made a strong appeal to the people of Goroka to end the ongoing violence involving the University of Goroka (UOG) and return to the peaceful and respectful way of life they have upheld over the past years.
Marape condemned the recent clashes between locals and university students, which have disrupted learning and resulted in innocent casualties.
“I appeal to my Goroka people out there. I know you are good people, and I ask that all community leaders take firm control of the youths. Let’s follow our traditions of peace and harmony,” Marape said.
The Prime Minister also addressed concerns about student behavior and campus safety, stressing the need to enforce alcohol-free policies and promote students’ ethics to ensure a safe and disciplined learning environment.
