POLICE READY FOR GOROKA SHOW AND INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATIONS OPERATIONS

Police in Eastern Highlands province are geared up and in full force to carry out operations during the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations and Goroka Show.

The police operation was launched yesterday at the Goroka Police station.

ESP Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Kale during the police parade issued the operation orders to his men and woman in Goroka today.

The PPC’s police operation orders include road blocks that will be conducted at Yonki, Asaro and random road blocks within Goroka town and it will be ongoing till the end of the month.

There will also be traffic policing and highway patrol to ensure no illegal transportation of alcohol and other items on vehicles, PMVs, Taxi in and around the province.

He added that a liquor ban is being imposed effective as of September 5, 2025 and will end on the 25th of this month.

He said the police operations begins on Saturday and will go in for the duration of the month into the Goroka Show which will be on the 19th, 20th and 21st of September.

PPC Kale also warned the members of the public to celebrate the Independence in its true sirit and at the right place.

A strong warning was also issued to liquor outlets and those selling illegal trade Winds products that several arrests of already being and more arrests will be made which includes a K5000 police fine for those selling alcohol and K1000 bail for all alcohol related offences in the province.

The launching concluded with a show of police strength around Goroka town making an awareness on the commencement of police operations.
