YOKUA PREPARES FOR RECONCILIATION

A remote primary school in the Watut area of Bulolo district, Morobe Province, is preparing to host a reconciliation ceremony next week ahead of the country’s 50th Independence Jubilee celebrations.

Yokua Primary School, established several decades ago, has faced ongoing struggles since its inception. For nearly fifty years, the school has been hindered by poor road access, limiting the delivery of basic services and school materials. The absence of proper infrastructure has further contributed to the challenges faced by both students and teachers.

Senior teacher Lenny Immanuel explained that many locals believed the school’s difficulties stemmed from a curse. He said the village of Yokua was historically associated with cannibalism, which had long discouraged the flow of services into the community.

According to Immanuel, the planned reconciliation between the people and key stakeholders was regarded as an important step toward unity. He said such unity would help create opportunities for improved education and better living standards for future generations.
