KARIPE WINS POGERA PAIELA OPEN BY ELECTION

Independent candidate Gidron Maso Karipe (pictured) is the member elect for the Pogera Paiela Open Seat in Enga Province.
Karipe was declared with 19, 223 votes while the runner up and OUR Party candidate Dickson Pundi got 13, 738.
The member elect Kariper is the son of former PM late Maso Karipe who won the election in 2022 but died while holding the office.
It is said that district election experienced fewer issues and violence compared to the past with majority of the population exercising their democratic rights.
A total of 27 candidates contested for the seat and the polling and the counting was completed within a period of two weeks.
The improved presence was maintained by the joint security forces under the command of Western End Commander and Pogera SOE Controller Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Tondop ensuring a peaceful election thus indicating a positive future for the gold rich district.
Karipe was left Enga Province and travelled to Mt Hagen where he was flown to Port Moresby yesterday on a chartered.
