NFA LAUNCHES FISHERIES COLD-STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTING FACILITY IN CHINA

The National Fisheries Authority, in its milestone achievement yesterday, officially launched its fisheries cold-storage and distribution facility in Guangzhou, China.

The launch of the facility reflects true friendship between the government and people of China and Papua New Guinea, which has always been based on mutual respect and understanding since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1976.

Fisheries and Marine Resources minister Jelta Wong, told the gathering that the PNG government, would like to see that diplomatic tie be translated to effective engagement such as the China Market Access which is of course now complemented with the cold-storage and distribution facility.

“This partnership between the National Fisheries Authority and the Guangzhou Aquatic Products Chamber of Commerce is a direct result of our governments’ joint efforts in our country’s bilateral relations,” said Minister Wong. “For PNG, this facility is a cornerstone of PNG’s efforts in sustainable development of fishery resources – vital to improving livelihoods and strengthened cooperation with China.”

Minister Wong emphasized: “The PNG government sees this facility as a starting point to further deepen official collaboration with China in fisheries management, marine conservation, technical training, employment opportunities, wealth creation and beyond.”

Guangzhou Aquatic Products Chamber of Commerce President, Zheng Shaokui, emphasized that; “The completion and launch of this distribution facility has successfully combined the resources, market and technical advantages of both countries, enabling high-quality ‘South Pacific seafood’ to directly reach the tables of Chinese people.”
