A MAN COMPLETES SEWING TRAINING AMONG 20 WOMEN AT BOERA

A twenty-three-year-old man is among 20 women who graduated from a sewing training at Boera in the central province last Friday.
Hisiu Muri is more than happy to be part of the Niu Power sponsored sewing training to upskill local people in Boera on how to sew.
Completing his grade eight in 2019 Muri could not further his studies that saw him returned to the coastal life of fishing and playing rugby just like any other local boy in the area would do.
“I completed my grade eight and went back to the village and did nothing until now I came to be part of this training,” Muri said.
“I am glad to be part of this training because I usually do nothing in the village.”
The two weeks training saw the participants undergo basic sewing skill and the hands-on training on how to operate sewing machines.
“Through these two weeks, I gained good knowledge on sewing, drawing patterns, cut the patterns and operate the machine.
I am also a youth leader, so I’ll go back and teach the youths how to sew,” Muri said.
The workshop was facilitated by Niu Power as their community obligation in partnership with Tribal Fashion.
Niu Power community liaison officer Bisia Geita said the training is to help the locals with life skills that will go a long way.
“Initiating a program is one thing but without the people (participants) things do not progress,” Geita said.
“What you have learnt, take it and use it to sustain your lives. This training (skills gained) will be with us if we seriously practice it. We can’t depend on royalty to live on forever.”
He further added that the second and third pace of the training will commence later with the dates yet to be announced.
