MUFTI DAY CONDEMNED

The Minister for education, Lukas Dekena has condemned the culturally insensitive activities recently displayed by the students of Gerehu Secondary School during their Mufti Day Program held on the 4th of July.
While programs like school mufti showcase various professions and aspects of PNG culture to inspire and motivate students, the Mufti Program held by Gerehu Secondary School last week under the 50th PNG Theme “Honouring Our Pacific Heritage, Inspiring modern careers and celebrating sports outfits’ innovation” is deemed as inappropriate by the Education Minister Lukas Dekena.
The Minister said what happened at the Gerehu secondary school went well beyond what is acceptable and reflects the schools administration and education system as a whole.
He said the School Principal and Administration have already provided a full explanation on what transpired, their performances will be reviewed and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken where necessary.
Minister Dekena is now urging school principals and administrators to exercise greater care and sensitivity to school programs and activities.
He said Schools must uphold the highest moral and ethical standards to protect the image of education institutions and Safeguard the future of young people.
