MISS DWU CONTESTANT GIVES BACK TO COMMUNITY

By Ken Jacob, DWU Journalism Student
A contestant in this year’s Miss Divine Word University (DWU) pageant has recently extended a helping hand to those in need through a heartfelt donation to the Modilon General Hospital in Madang.
Theresianthea Bengi, a third-year Communication Arts (Journalism) student, is representing the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) in the DWU annual pageant. As part of her community engagement initiative, she delivered a donation to support patients and staff at the hospital.
“I felt relieved and fulfilled after presenting the donation because helping the needy felt good,” said Miss Bengi. “Even though it wasn’t much, I felt a strong sense of connection.”
Miss Bengi said she was moved by gratitude to God for the life she has and wanted to give back to those in need.
“Last year, I donated blood at the Modilon General Hospital’s surgical ward when volunteers were needed,” she recalled. “That experience touched me deeply, and it was then that I developed the desire to help the sick and vulnerable.”
She clarified that her act of giving was not just inspired by the pageant but rooted in a commitment she made long before she became Miss FASS.
“Even though the donation is small, it comes from the heart,” she said.
Miss Bengi also thanked the students who supported her initiative.
“To all the students who contributed to make this donation a successful one, thank you so much for your support. It would not have been possible without your help,” she said.
Staff at the Madang General Hospital were grateful for the donation and expressed their appreciation for Miss Bengi’s kind gesture.
Miss Bengi encouraged others, especially young people, to do the same by helping those in need and donating to nearby hospitals.
“I call on everyone to lend a helping hand to the sick and the struggling. We must help each other in times of need,” she said.
