LLG COUNCIL CANDIDATES IN GOROKA DISTRICT WANTS POLLING DATES CLARIFIED

MORE than 50 candidates contesting the Local Level Government council elections in the Goroka district of Eastern Highlands Province have petitioned authorities to clarify the polling dates.
The candidates have petitioned the Eastern Highlands Steering Committee (EHSC) for certain clarifications on the running of elections as the polling nears with just 10 days away.
The petition was directed to EHSC Chairman and EHP administrator Allan Loss, Director for Provincial and Local Level Government James Sipa, and Provincial Election Manager Steven Gore Kaupa. The copies of the petition were also given to Goroka LLG Manager Jurere Mako, Goroka MP Aiye Tambua, EHP governor Simon Sia and the Eastern Highlands Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Kale.
Speaking on behalf of the candidates Goroka LLG Elections intending candidate Steven Kirufana said the election commission must verify how many polling teams will be conducting polling at each ward. He said they want their response by tomorrow (Friday) in Goroka
Mr. Kuriafa said with just 10 days away to polling the Electoral Commission must come out clear on how the LLG Elections will be carried out in the district to ensure a free and fair Elections is being conducted following a failed election in the Gahuku LLG election which they do not want to see repeat.
He further expressed disagreement on behalf of the intending candidates that there will only be one polling team per ward when there are more than five polling areas, especially in the rural Mimanalo and Gahuku LLGs of the district.
