AKEM CALLS FOR ALCOHOL BAN IN ENGA AGAIN

Lagaip District Member Aimos Akem has made an urgent appeal to the Enga Provincial Government to impose a ban on alcohol in Enga during the Local Level Government and Porgera Paiela by- elections period.

MP Akem who is also the Chairman of the Permanent Parliamentary Committee on Law and Order has indicated that both Police and PNG Defense Force in Enga Province should arrest people who are in possession of all forms of alcohol during the ban period.

He said check points and patrols at the border of Western Highlands, Hela and Southern Highlands Provinces must be strictly imposed.

“This is to maintain peace in the election period.

“We know for sure that 80 per cent of law-and-order issues including tribal fights in Enga Province are caused by beer and homebrew,” he said.

“Let’s work together to make Enga safe again for a fair and free LLG elections and the Porgera-Paiela By-elections,” MP Akem concluded.
