Vanuatu Prime Minister Pays Last Respects to Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare

Prime Minister of Vanuatu Bob Weibur, today paid his final tribute to our founding father Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare, on behalf of the Government and People of the Republic of Vanuatu at the MSG Secretariat.

Today’s ceremony featured the official closure of the week-long MSG Secretariat Haus Krai that was jointly organized with the Vanuatu Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade.

The Haus Krai was officially opened last Friday by Deputy Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Ishmael Kalsakau.

Today’s memorial event coincided with the state funeral and burial service for the late Grand Chief, Sir Michael Thomas Somare and was attended by senior Government officials, Heads of Regional Organisations and members of the Diplomatic Corp in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
