Sepik Keen on Semi-Professional Footy

The Sepik Bid 2021 is slowly ticking the boxes of requirements to nullify and grant them participation in PNG Intercity Cup Competition.

The PNG NRL Competition is the semi-professional rugby league competition with twelve participating teams representing Lae, New Britain Provinces, and the Highlands.

The Sepik Bid 2021 is an initiative of the two Sepik Provincial Government to create pathways for Sepik youths to play in the semi-professional rugby league competition.

Having ticked 4 out of the 10 boxes already, the Port Moresby committee recently had a meeting to discuss fundraising and seek sponsors for the bid.

Bradley Simon, the East Sepik Rugby League Project Officer, and former Agmark Rabaul Gurias player had a dream of re-igniting the interest in ‘rugby league’ in Sepik when he retired from semi-professional footy.

The Bid is progressing well and the committee is optimistic towards having a franchise team representing East and West Sepik in PNG National Rugby League Competition come 2021.

With the support of former Sepik players in who have represented PNG in the likes of Nigel Hukula (206), Arnold Krewanty(Kumul105), and Richard Wagambi (Kumul 142), they are looking forward to ticking the remaining 6 boxes and presenting the Bid to the PNG NRLC Board.
