The East New Britain Provincial Health Authority has boosted its surveillance against COVID-19 in all its entry points into the province.
The move comes following the recent surge in reported positive COVID-19 cases in Port Moresby including deaths.
Provincial SOE Controller, Wilson Matava, issued a list of measures yesterday urging the general public and business houses to comply with.
Matava says measures include strict monitoring of commercial flights into the province, with passengers subjected to thorough checkups at Tokua airport.
Incoming travelers who display COVID-19 related symptoms will be isolated for 14 days.
Passengers from Port Moresby and Lae will be required to produce medical certificates obtained from a health facility confirming their status as COVID-19 free.
Local PMV’s and Taxi operators have also been tasked to carry masked passengers.
Sporting activities and big public gatherings such as church services have been discouraged.
Matava says these are some of the measures implemented in March during the 21-days lockdown in the province and have been reintroduced.
He says police will be monitoring public movements and anyone who fails to comply with these measures will be penalized under the National Pandemic Act.
