Oil Search launches K5.7million STEM Scholarship programme

Oil developer, Oil Search Limited has launched its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship Programme.

OSL Executive Vice President Dale Rollins says this initiative is to create an opportunity for eligible Papua New Guinean’s for a career pathway in the oil and gas sector.

Nine intakes are the first for this scholarship worth K5.7million. The STEM scholarship Programme is one element of OSL’s overarching scholarship program.

Mr. Rollins says the initiative is to encourage young nationals in technical schools and universities to kick-start their careers. Strict criteria will be followed with a scholarship given on merit. A gender balance of 50:50 is also prioritized when selecting candidates.

Of the nine inaugural intakes, two have completed their internship with OLS’s Exploration Team.

The scholarship covers full tuition fees, accommodation, travel, book allowances and work practical assistance and will run parallel with other scholarship programs supported by Oil Search.
