Eastern Highlands Province Focuses on its Road Networks

The Yasubi-Yagusa road in the Okapa District of Eastern Highlands Province (EHP) will be upgraded and maintained to improve road access into the area. The road has worsened overtime, affecting coffee and vegetable farmers from bringing their produce to the markets. Vehicles often get bogged down on the road because of these conditions.

On Friday, Eastern Highlands Governor, Peter Numu, went to Yasubi in East Okapa LLG, along with officials from the Provincial Government and administration, to launch the upgrade and maintenance of the Yasubi-Yagusa road. Numu told the people that the upgrade of this road aims to aid in the improvement of basic services into the area, stressing on the importance of road networks.

“Road networks is the foundation of all other services and developments in the province and in the country.”

Being the first of six road projects to be launched, the 6.3 kilometer road project is expected to improve road access for the locals who depend on it. Other bridge and road constructions will include the Yamox Road, Kaveve road and bridge, Akameku, and Asaro Lunumbe roads.

Apart from the road maintenance and upgrade projects, the EHP Provincial Government will also be undertaking education institution constructions for the Kainantu Secondary School, Pintaka Day School, University of Goroka, Bena-Bena, Henganofi, Lufa Secondary, Rinteba, Okapa, and Ivingoi Secondary Schools. These are projects that are funded through the functional grants, under the Provincial Governments Minor-Works Projects, and will cost K6.6 million.
