PNG’s Under 18 Men’s Soccer Team has received much needed support from Bank South Pacific to participate in the inaugural OFC Youth Development Tournament 2019 in Vanuatu from 15th-24th of August, 2019.
BSP presented their support of K5,000 towards the national team – their support including merchandise valued at K3,000 to the PNG Football Association (PNGFA) to assist the team.
According to the bank’s Corporate Sponsorship Manager Amelia Minnopu, BSP is pleased to be a part of the team as they prepare to fly the PNG Flag in the next week in Vanuatu
“We recognise that soccer like any other sports has played a significant part of social and personal development of young Papua New Guineans. We are pleased to be a part of the team, as they fly the PNG flag during the OFC Youth Development Tournament.

General Secretary of PNGFA Dimirit Mileng with PNGFA President John Kapi Nato thanked BSP for the much needed support saying, “the support will go a long way to assist and motivate these young talented footballers develop into mature senior footballers in the future.”
For the first edition of the OFC Youth Development Tournament 2019 supported by European Football Association (EUFA), six teams have been invited to participate in cross-confederation event which will feature not only New Caledonia, Tahiti, Papua New Guinea and host Vanuatu, but also Estonia from Europe and India from Asia.
PNG has been drawn alongside Tahiti and Estonia in Group A while Group B is made up of New Caledonia, India and host Vanuatu.
The inaugural OFC Youth Development Tournament is scheduled to take place at Korman Stadium in Port Vila, Vanuatu from the 15th-24th of August, 2019.
This is the second time the leading bank of the Pacific has come to the aid of PNG Football Association. In the recent Pacific Games in Samoa, BSP provided soccer boosts and merchandise to the tune of around K8,000 to the PNG Women’s Soccer Team who brought back gold for the fifth consecutive time.
