By Annette Kora – EMTV News, Port Moresby

In what will be a first of a kind for PNG, the Papua New Guinea International Labour Organisation will be playing host to the Pacific Tripartite High Forum on climate change, and decent work in the Pacific.

This is to mark 100 years of the International Labour Organization (ILO) globally, since its formation in 1919, making ILO the oldest UN agency with the mandate of fostering universal and lasting peace through social justice.

Papua New Guinea’s engagement with ILO since 1975 has seen a steady partnership in the development process of the country, having provided support in the area of labour law reforms, institutional reforms and organisations of the functions of the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations, and employment creation. To commemorate this centenary, PNG will host the first of its kind Pacific High Level Tripartite Dialogue on issues affecting the world of work.

In raising the profile of the High Level Dialogue, Director General of the ILO, Guy Ryder, will also be visiting PNG for the first time to officiate at the opening of the Dialogue.

The two events are considered significant for PNG as the country was endorsed to host the High Level Tripartite Dialogue, as well as receive the Director General.
