CS Minister: CS to address officers’ accommodation problems

By Martha Louis – EM TV News, Madang

Minister for Correctional Services, Chris Nangoi, says the department is now looking at modular programs to address housing problems faced by officers.

Nangoi said they will begin with ten houses at the Bomana Correctional Services.

The department will later target four main correctional institutions in the country, including Beon in Madang, and Kerevat in East New Britain province.

The department is also pushing to settle aging officers pensions so that it creates space for young officers.

“Right now in the institution we have all the aging staff, they are old people that are occupying the space. So, if we push in the pension issue, we start to vacate them and so we create vacancy for the new graduates to go in.”

“I think the first intervention that we have done, is the graduation of the Joint Forces, in Igam,” said Minister Nangoi.

Another key area is getting new recruits into all the CS institutions around the country. This is to help bring in new ideas and innovation into the department, as a way of developing, and moving forward.
