By Patricia Keamo – EM TV News, Port Moresby NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’Dranou is urging the public to stop making up false reports and let the police do their job. While addressing the media today regarding crimes in the city, N’Dranou emphasized that police officers cannot investigate social media comments made by the public regarding the reports of the alleged abduction. He says assistance from the police can be sought if cases are reported formally this allows officers to follow proper protocols in investigating and determining the authenticity of allegations. N’Dranou revealed that there are certain cases they come across like women leaving their husbands for another man or missing children being found, but there were no solid cases of people being abducted. The police are also warning against posting on social media, especially Facebook and speculating about abductions, which can lead to arrests and charges for spreading false information. The Met Sup also admitting, it is quite difficult for police to investigate since most of those posting on social media are either using phony names or fake accounts. Last month, social media went into a frenzy over reports of alleged abduction cases around the city. Since then, no recent cases of abductions were reported. Reports from Mr N’Dranou shows that there have been no recent cases of abductions but other strings of crimes including sexual related offences are rapidly rising. ]]>
