Mt Hagen MS 6 Refresher Training

By Vasinatta Yama – EMTV News, Mt Hagen

Mt Hagen-based Mobile Squad 6 members ended a week long refresher training at Kimininga Barracks recently.

The refresher provided insight to rules of engagement during public events and confrontations.

The Mt Hagen-based MS6 members recently underwent a week-long intensive training to prepare them for the LLG election operations.

In the Highlands Region, security is paramount, as past experiences have seen it become a flash point for violence during elections.

Officer in Charge of the Special Services Division Training, Highlands Mobile Group, Chief Sergeant, Simon Wakala, says security
personnel need to be equipped with proper training before going out on such high-risk operations.

Squad members were also taught about election related laws, considering the rights of people during election, and the use of force during elections.

The training was not funded by the RPNGC, but was an initiative of the squad commanders. Western Highlands Provincial Police Commander, Jacob Kamiak, applauded the MS6 for their initiative.

Kamiak also alluded to the need for Mt Hagen Police to have vehicles to conduct such operations. MS6 members were told to maintain professionalism during operations to gain public trust, in maintaining peace and security over the course of the LLG elections.
