Magistrate Tells Suspect to Refrain From Causing Trouble

Lae District Court Magistrate, Edward Kupo, yesterday, April 24, told a 50-year-old man accused for alleged sexual penetration on 10-year-old girl last month to cooperate with police investigation whilst out on a K500 bail. The 50-year-old man is a school principal of a private-run christian school in Lae, Morobe Province. He was charged by Lae’s Sexual Offense Squad Police for sexual penetration and abuse of trust last month in March.

Magistrate Kupo adjourned the case to the 8th of May awaiting police reports to be completed.

Lae District Court Magistrate Edward Kupo told the 50-year-old suspect of a sexual abuse crime to refrain from causing trouble whilst out on bail.

According to Magistrate Kupo, there was not any bail condition imposed. The condition is a requirement that the accused person must follow when out on bail. Failure to follow these terms invites re-arrest, new charges and cancellation of the previous form of release.

The 50-year-old suspect is a principal and director of a private-run school at Papuan Compound in Lae. He was arrested and charged by Lae’s Sexual Offense Squad Police for sexually assaulting a 10-year old girl student. The suspect is a also a police reservist, a community leader and a relative of the victim.

The 50-year-old school principal will appear in court again on the 8th next month.

In another case, a police reservist and officer from the Lae District Authority, Revenue Division, will appear before the Lae District Court tomorrow for producing pornography involving a grade 7 student of Bulolo Primary School in Bulolo District.
