By Patricia Keamo, EMTV Cadet Journalist – Port Moresby

Following the continuous torrential rainfall in East New Britain Province that washed away homes and cut off road access, the PNG National Weather Service has issued a gale force and strong wind warning for the New Guinea Islands region, as well as for the Morobe Province.

According to reports, a tropical cyclone system that hit Vanuatu recently is on course to cross South Queensland.

Tropical Storm Wutip just north of the Equator, is enhancing wind surges and widespread rain areas for the northern region, and the New Guinea Islands. According to the National Weather Service, New Guinea Islands should expect heavy showers, thunderstorms and wind surges of 25 to 38 knots or 46 to 70km/h.
