Think-tanks From Around the APEC Region Discuss Connectivity

By Leanne Jorari – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The APEC Study Centers Consortium Conference, hosted by the PNG APEC Study Centre and PNG National Research Institute, kicked started the APEC Senior Officials Meetings and Related Meetings. The Consortium convened to discuss how research and policy contribute to ensure social and economic growth for the APEC economies.

APEC Study Centers are institutions that foster research and academic discussions that support the broader APEC mission of regional economic integration. Each of the 21 member economies hosts centers, building networks between the academic professionals of the region. Today, there are more than 50 ASC’s, and together they form the APEC Study Centers Consortium.

The ASCC holds an annual conference and this year, Papua New Guinea’s APEC Study Center along with the PNG National Research Center, hosted the consortium conference; academics and Scholars, discussed collective experiences to ensure research makes a positive contribution to the region and in a nod to the host country, Papua New Guinea; discussions were centred on a PNG context. The annual conference provides an opportunity for academics and scholars from around the region to discuss their research and identify areas for collaboration.
