The Department of National Planning and Monitoring is working to establish the country’s first National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Authority.
The new authority is part of a series of reforms aimed at fully implementing the Government’s WASH Policy.
Minister responsible, Richard Maru announced this at the launch of the Esa’ala District Water Development Exposition and Exhibition in Alotau earlier this week.
The new National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Authority will be set up to regulate the Water, Sanitation and Health industry in the country.
Speaking during the launch of the Esa’ala District Water Development Exposition and Exhibition, National Planning Minister Richard Maru announced the government for the first time will set up a regulatory body to monitor how water services are provided throughout the country.
“It is the Government’s responsibility to provide guidance as well as the environment to improve the quality of life for our people, and the new Authority will implement fully the Government’s WASH Policy 2015-2030,” Maru said.
