Twelve Brave Police Women Behind Wheels

By Theckla Gunga – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Constable Rauma Lo’o is confident her police women will respond well to any threats if encountered during the APEC Summit.

Lo’o is the police woman who is teaching 12 other police women on advanced tactical driving, an important skill needed for APEC security.

These women officers will be driving the spouses of the 21 world leaders around Port Moresby, come November.

These 12 are the first batch of female officers who will be in very close contact with spouses of the 21 visiting world leaders.

For two weeks, these officers were taught on how to quickly identify threats, and how to respond and drive to safety.

In this drill, the vehicle carrying the spouse of a world leader is in the front with the escort vehicle following closely behind.

Once it encounters a threat the escort vehicle is notified and it drives forward, providing cover.

The vehicle carrying the principal then reverses and speeds off to safety.

From the outside, it may look like normal reversing, but the women behind the steering wheels are trained, using World Standard defensive driving.

This is one of the many preparations, leading up to security operations for APEC 2018.
