Muthuvel Concerned with Capability of Fire Service Department

The capabilities of the Fire Service Department have been questioned again on the floor of parliament.

West New Britain, Governor Sasindran Muthuvel, queried the current state of the Government agency.

Governor Muthuvel said this problem is not new with many investigations by the Fire Service being watered down with many not made publicly. And with APEC nearing, Governor Muthuvel is concern how the Fire Service will respond during emergencies.

Minister responsible Kevin Isifu said a plan is being developed to overhaul the functions of the Fire Service.

Over the past 5 years the Fire Service has come under criticism by the public and business houses. Minister responsible Kevin Isifu said it has been a challenge for the Fire Service Department to deal with the widespread fires around the country.

Minister Isifu said a plan is progressing to review the responsibilities and capacity of the Fire Service Department. A ministerial statement will be made publicly with reports of fire investigations for the past 3 months.
