Papua New Guinea continues to receive significant support from the Australian Government towards the hosting of APEC Summit in November.
Through the PNG and Australian Policing Partnership Program, the Traffic Directorate has seen refurbished.
Officer in charge, Senior Inspector Joe Joseph said the refurbishment is a big improvement the directorate has seen in a long time.
The new facility built though the Partnership Program is desired to prepare traffic officers for security escorts during the APEC Meeting.
It includes a two-story air-conditioned building as the new Headquarters for the Directorate.
A small ceremony was held this morning where the facility was handed over to the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.
The total cost of this refurbishment stands at K750,000.
The Traffic Directorate is responsible for the escort of over 21 World Leaders with their delegations who will be attending the Summit.
The officers are expected to provide high level security for these leaders, from their accommodation venues to the meeting areas.
So far, 30 traffic officers have been trained through the partnership to provide close protections and motorcades.
But in order to provide such high level security, the directorate still needs more officers.
Last November, the Australian Federal Police conducted trainings for security officers on crowd control.
Meanwhile the APEC Haus in Downtown Port Moresby is slowing taking shape. Contractors predict it will be completed by August.
