Subscriber says, SIM Deactivation a Violation of Human Rights

Baundo Francis will be pursuing a substantive case he filed on human rights grounds on the SIM card registration deadline on January 31st.

Francis filed an urgent application and has provided a solution for the entire mandatory process to be made flexible,, optional and voluntarily.

This is to allow subscribers to register their SIM cards at their own convenient time.

Baundo Francis is a lawyer and describes himself as a concerned subscriber who has lodged an urgent application with the Waigani National Court.

He told EMTV News, there was initial failure by the state and NICTA to facilitate a broader consultation and awareness on the SIM Card registration and regulation.

And he is seeking the courts support for the mandatory process to be relaxed.

He said citizens must not be deprived their basic human rights, which is a preamble to the PNG Constitution.
