It was eye-opening for those who attended Parliament today, with the use of sign language included.
Parliament was braced this morning with the presence of persons with disabilities from the Chesire Home. Interpreters interpreted to them and they were able to understand the proceedings.
Their presence was acknowledged by the National Parliament Speaker, Job Pomat.
It comes a day after the commemoration of the International Day of Persons With Disabilities with the theme ‘Transforming Towards Sustainable and Resilient Society For All’, calling for the public and private sector including individuals to change the environment setting to cater for them.
Community Development Department Secretary, Anna Solomon, says the disability draft bill in place and will be used as a legal instrument to break many barriers to make rights real.
The dignity and human rights of persons with disabilities must be respected through the increase of social participation and inclusion. And Papua New Guinea is in the pipeline, a draft bill to break many barriers.
