Walk For Life in Port Moresby to Mark Human Rights Day

Women in Port Moresby have been urged to join the weekly Walk For Life this Sunday coinciding with Human Rights Day.

President of NCD Women Network, Rose Kiripo, says the Government will not make any difference unless women stand up and show their commitment to address the widespread abuse of women and girls.

Kiripo says violence against women and girls must be completely eradicated in communities within the city. She further says the walk is an event city residents must embrace to show their level of support to stop such nonsense.

According to statistics, violence or the abuse of women and girls in the city has gradually slowed down however, many cases remain unreported.

On an international scene, the world will celebrate Human Rights Day on Sunday.

The walk will also see campaign messages acknowledging efforts to support Human Rights.

Women’s group, NCD Women Network, has carried out a month-long awareness in hopes that city residents will participate in numbers.

The walk will begin as early as 5:30 a.m.
