Uni Students Assured TESAS Fees Payment by Government

By Staycey Yalo, EMTV News, Port Moresby

Secretary for Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Professor Fr. Jan Czuba , said commitments by the government on TESAS and HECAS scholarship will be paid.

He said universities must understand that students must not be held responsible for the delay in government to pay their portion of their fees.

Father Czuba made these remarks following confusion among final year students of universities on the effects of the delay that could have on their graduation status.

While pocket allowances and book allowances for students under TESAS and HECAS scholarship have been paid, some students are worried about their ticket arrangements.

Prof. Fr Czuba said if universities send in their acquittals on time, this situation would have been avoided.

He said final year students will and must graduate even if the government does not pay their portion of their fees on time, the government will still deliver.

In addition, the Higher Education ministry is looking at TESAS policy review with higher learning institution to organise for travel arrangements themselves, next year onwards.
