The Department of Prime Minister & National Executive Council of Papua New Guinea and the Australian Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet yesterday (20/09/17) signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning technical cooperation and institutional partnership.
Chief Secretary to Government, Isaac Lupari said the MOU will:
- Pave the way for institutional link and strengthening between the two Departments under the current Department treaty between the two countries;
- Provides for institutional strengthening in the areas of Public Service Reforms, Whole-of-Government process, and monitoring and coordination of government policies and decisions; and
- Integral part of this understanding is to twine arrangement for officers from PM& NEC to undergo joint training and skill building.
Mr Lupari said the MOU is set to recognize the importance that both governments place on strong institutional links between PNG and Australia and expanding the existing people to people links between the two countries.
“It recognizes the shared role of both Departments in providing quality advice to their respective governments and in supporting the coordinated development and implementation of government policies,” the Chief Secretary said.
Mr Lupari said the working relationship and cooperation between the two institutions will be based on mutual understanding, respect, responsibility, transparency and accountability whilst having regard to their capacity and resources for improved development outcomes with full participation from both participants.
