6th Pacific Tuna Forum Underway

Participants from the tuna industry from across the Pacific Region gathered in Port Moresby today for the start of the Pacific Tuna Forum 2017.

This year’s Theme, “Fostering Greater Social, Economic and Financial Benefits through Sustainable Tuna Management and Development.”

The Keynote address, delivered by Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission Executive Director, Feleti Teo, focused on the current trends in the tuna industry, as well as some challenges that remain.

Mr Teo began by providing an overview of the fisheries sector in Western & Central Pacific, which in 2016 provided significant revenue for countries in this region.

In line with developments within Fisheries, Mr Teo encouraged the tuna industry to remain committed to developing small to medium enterprises, especially in regards to building capacity.
