PNG Designers to Showcase Artistry at Pacific Balance Fund Project Runway

Papua New Guinea’s fine artists have gathered in Port Moresby to showcase their designs at this year’s fashion event that supports the Miss South Pacific Pageant PNG.

This will also be an opportunity to announce a designer from the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant Project Runway held on July 30, as a stylist /designer for Miss Pacific Balanced Fund.

The event will showcase 11 talented designers who have created pieces in the three categories required by the Miss South Pacific Pageant PNG.

A media conference was held this morning to announce that preparations are well underway for the Pacific Balanced Fund Project Runway. The event will be held this Saturday at the Crowne Plaza in Port Moresby.

The categories will be ‘Traditionally Inspired Dress’, ‘Sarong Wear’ and ‘Day & Evening Wear’. The winning designs for the Sarong Wear and Day & Evening Wear will get K3,000 price money.

PNG has never won the ‘Traditionally Inspired Dress’ category at the regional Miss Pacific Islands Pageant and has therefore placed emphasis on this category to encourage PNG designers to create something amazing.

For designer Yanah Copeland, she has dedicated her label at this fashion event to the former beauty queen, the Late Ruby-Anne Laufa.

One of the aims of Project Runway is to provide PNG’s local talent a unique opportunity to showcase their designs on the regional platform. The Miss Pacific Islands Pageant PNG crowning will be held on the 28th of October 2017.
