Polling in Kairuku-Hiri’s Koiari LLG Progressing Well

Polling in the Koiari LLG in the Kairuku-Hiri District in Central Province is progressing well. Today the community at Rouna Works in the Sogeri Valley area went to the polls without any incidents.

EMTV was at Rouna Works at about 10:30 this morning where polling Team 2 had set up for the day. Locals started casting their votes at 10:50am.

Presiding Officer, Copland Tapio, is confident of finishing polling successfully and without any delays. \

Tapio said polling began on Tuesday and has been progressing well. However a local, Arako Berewi, was concerned that the two ballot boxes already contained marked ballot papers from the previous polling station. Mr. Tapio said the ballot boxes were being used again because polling was still within the same ward.

Kairuku-Hiri Open has 27 candidates vying for the Open Seat, only one is a woman. 13 of the candidates are Independents and 14 of them are endorsed by political parties.

Next week, the polling team will move from the Depo Ward to 17 Mile.
