Bougainville Amateur Boxing Association aims high

The Bougainville Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) has plans to create its own union after 2019 to allow a fair representation in the code.

BABA President, Victor Sihung told EMTV News that this union will govern the code of boxing.

“Eventually after 2019 on our referendum journey, we will have our own union to govern boxing,” he said.

For over 30 years, Bougainville has produced some of the best boxers for Papua New Guinea and still has many raw talent to be nurtured.

There are two existing associations who produce the high level athletes that come out of the clubs.

Sihung says that raw talents remain in the club level and will be identified through this concept with more professional boxers to be produced.

“On our level as the governing body of boxing here in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, we will then export them,

“But before that, we must support our clubs with facilities and equipment and nurture our raw talent and current professionals,” he said.
