Hoops for Health Nominated

Among the nominated finalists for the SP Sports Awards is Basketball PNG’s ‘Hoops for Health’ program. The program was among three nominees for the Community Initiative Category.

Basket Federation PNG CEO, Joel Khalu, says winning the silverware would be a bonus, but the nomination is a testament of all the hard work put into the ‘Hoops for Health’ program.

Hoops for Health was made possible through the support of FIBA and Australia Government’s Pacific Sports Partnership progam last year, and has since grown in participation.

The program mainly promotes active lifestyles, the value of education and the reduction of anti-social behaviors.

And it is delivered through four programs; School based programs, the popular Twilight Basketball, Pikinini Hoops and the Mixed Corporate competition.

Meanwhile, a BFPNG official, Timothy Mako, has also been recognised for his contributions to basketball in the Highlands region.

Mako was nominated under the National Performance of the year Category.

The SP Sports Awards will be held next Saturday here in the Nation’s Capital, at the Crowne Plaza.
