First ‘Let’s Talk Cancer’ Workshop Hosted

by Marie Kauna – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

With the recent launch of its ‘Let’s Talk Cancer’ Campaign, the Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation (PNGCF) conducted its first full day ‘Let’s Talk Cancer’ Cervical & Breast Cancer workshops.

The workshop covered topics on what cervical and breast cancer is, their signs and symptoms, and prevention and detection tips.

The workshop was conducted by PNG Cancer Foundation’s Health Educator, Sonia Dadae, who is a 5th year Medical Student.

Sonia has taught more than 300 individuals from corporate and small community groups in Port Moresby.

In his welcome speech at the workshop, PNGCF CEO, Dadi Toka Jr, said “The Cervical and Breast Cancer Workshop Program focuses on educating individuals on what cervical and breast cancer is and how to reduce the risk of developing these cancers, through making healthy lifestyle choices today”.

He urged those gathered for the workshop to pass on word to their families, loved ones and friends to help in the awareness campaign for cancer in Papua New Guinea. With increasing calls for more awareness on cancer, this is one simple and important way of sharing information about Cancer to others.

With a successful progress of the first workshop, another one will be held on May 22, at the Royal Papua Yacht Club.

The workshop is sponsored by JM Ocean Avenue, the Royal Papua Yacht Club and supported by Moore Printing and DHL.

For those interested to participate in the next workshop, you can contact the PNGCF office on 180 2009 or email programs@cancerfoundation.org.pg to register.

The workshop is free and the public is urged to join.
