NARI Hosts 9th Innovation Show in Lae

The National Agriculture Research Institute hosted its 9th Innovation show in Lae today.

The show is an annual event, which brings together NARI’s partners, farmers, and educational institutions to interact and exhibit skills for innovative agricultural development.

The Research Centre at NARI Bubia in Lae, was crowded with students, organisations and farmers who made it to the show to experience the innovations developed by NARI and its partners.

Displayed at the show were innovations such as the garden tiller and the solar powered rice mill.

Two grade eight students from Erap Primary School, Jacob and Scott, said the show was an opportunity for them to complete their school projects.

This is the 9th Agriculture Innovation Show with its objective to bring NARI’S skilled farmers, business partners and research organisations to share and exchange information.

Fifteen smallholder farmer groups participated today.

A guava farmer from Ngalonzua Farm, Edith Babul, was present to sell her juicy indian guavas, while show Chairman, James Laraki, said agriculture is the most important sector in the PNG economy, which unfortunately is lacking government support.

Babul said NARI is financially supported by its corporate partners and the Australian Government.
