Paru Aihi Nominated for Kairuku-Hiri Open Election

Just an hour after Kairiku-Hiri sitting MP, Peter Isoaimo, was nominated, his biggest rival walked into the office to be nominated.

Paru Aihi is running for office again.

Today, Aihi signed the papers, three years after losing to the sitting MP, Peter Isoaimo, in a 2014 by-election.

Aihi says he is confident that he will return to office.

In contrast to Isoaimo, Aihi arrived quietly with close supporters.

The politics has started, with the former Education Minister already laying allegations against the sitting MP.

“There have also been inequitable distribution of government goods and services,” alleges Aihi.

Paru Aihi has asked the electoral commission to create a fair contest for all candidates. He lost the Kairiku-Hiri seat to Peter Isoaimo in a 2014 by election after going to court.

“I call on the Electoral Commission, because of my experiences of the last two elections and especially the by-election, to ensure, to provide a level playing field for all the candidates,” says Aihi.

While Aihi and Isoaimo have history, there are thirty other candidates vying for the seat.
