Former Justice Minister Kerenga Kua says local law and justice officers must be supported to maintain law and order in communities.
The Sinasina Yongomugl MP said little attention has been given to them, causing officers to neglect their duties as State agents.
He made this statement following the issuing of uniforms to law and justice officers for the Sinasina Yongomugl District in Simbu.
The uniforms were presented to village court magistrates, councillors and peace mediators who are at the forefront of maintaining law and order in communities. This the second batch of uniforms funded under the Sinasina Yongomugl District budget. The first was in 2013.
Over 100 uniforms were presented.
Speaking to those who gathered at Yobakogul Village, the Sinasina Yongomugl MP said local hand of law is the most important Government agent in addressing law and order.
“These officers are the face of the Government and must be equipped and supported to show Government presence”, said MP Kua.
Apart from presenting the uniforms, MP Kua reminded the community to exercise their democratic right by making their own choice when polling begin for the 2017 National Elections.
