Duma-Pok Supports Ombudsman Commission Investigation of alleged corrupt land deals

Hagen Open MP, William Duma and North Waghi MP, Dr Fabian Pok came out public today in Western Highlands Province that they are supporting the investigation by the Ombudsman Commission.

The investigation was about the alleged corrupt land deal to relocate Murray Barracks to Manu Manu in Central Province.

Both including the United Resource Party members showed their solidarity that they will corporate with the investigation.

William Duma and Dr Fabian Pok were sidelined last month as Minister for State Owned Enterprise and Defence based on allegations into the purchasing of the Manumanu land.

Duma and Pok told more than 500 who gathered today that they have nothing to hide, but will continue to assist the investigation by the Commission of Inquiry, Police and Ombudsman Commission.

The allegations are that the state business arms had colluded with the two department heads to make the purchases outside of NEC sanctions procedures.

The cabinet decision of 2012 was for the relocation of the naval base, Taurama and Murray Barracks to inland Central Province.

Any government spending amounting to over K10 million was a collective decision to be made by the NEC.

It was alleged that the Defense and State Enterprises spent over K70 million on land transfers related to the deal.

Dr Pok today brushed aside these allegations and urged the investigations to continue.

The focus of investigations will be on:

  • Land portion 406 in Manumanu at a cost of K46 million by Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH)
  • Department of Defense acquiring of portion 698 at a cost of K15.4 million, also;
  • Land portion 422 for K7.2 million and;
  • Portion 423 for K9.2 million by Department of Defence

The Commission of Inquiry will also include the private sector, people who own these portions of land, and others involved in the sale of a particular piece of land.

Members of the United Resources Party who came today and supported Duma and Pok are Jimmy MP, Mai Dop, Usino-Bundi MP, Anthon Yagama, Bougainville Regional member, Joe Lera, and Madang Governor Jim Kas.
