Bob Dadae was sworn in today as the tenth Governor General of Papua New Guinea.
His appointment follows the untimely passing of late Sir Michael Ogio who’s term would have expired today.
His Excellency Dadae, swore his allegiance under His honor, the Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia, in the presence of Parliament.
“I, Bob Dadae do swear that I will well and truly serve and bear true allegiance to her majesty Queen Elizabeth ll, her heirs and successors according to law”
He declared his loyalty to the state;
“I, Bob Dadae realise fully the responsibilities to which I am committing myself and the consequences of not living up to this declaration…”
And made a declaration of office according to law.
“… I will well and truly serve the independent state of Papua New Guinea and its people in the office of the Governor General,”
Parliament Speaker, Theodore Zurenuoc offered an official congratulatory remark.
“…on behalf of the members of the parliament and the people of Papua New Guinea whom they represent, I offer you our congratulations and wish you every success in the high office you now occupy”.
Zurenuoc filled in for the late Sir Michael Ogio as acting Governor-General His Excellency Bob Dadae was sworn in today.
Dadae won the governor’s seat by 55 votes in the 111-seat parliament over former PNG Defence Force commander, Ted Diro and former MP, Timothy Bonga.
Late Sir Ogio was only a week shy of ending his term as the ninth Governor-General and eight days away from the official handover-takeover with his successor Bob Dadae when he passed away.
Heads of Government and Foreign Dignitaries were also present to witness the Governor Generals swearing-in ceremony.
