Court Files served on six accused for Piracy Murder

Court files have been served on the six men charged with Piracy Murder in Port Moresby, in 2016.

The six co-accused appeared before magistrate, John Kaumi at the Bomana District Court, this morning.

The six accused are Peter Kavea, Bobby Rarua, Leka Rabia, Tatana Vediho, Nolah Lawrence and Boge Kevau.

All are aged between 25 to 40 years of age.

They appeared without a lawyer, and informed the courts that they had received their police hand-up briefs.

Magistrate Kaumi told the six men that they need a lawyer so he can represent them in court.

The six have been in custody since their arrest in August 2016. Police alleged that they had killed a fisherman in last August, and stole the engine of his boat.

When their case returns to court on March 6, the magistrate will be hearing submissions on the sufficiency of the evidence.

The six are remanded at the Bomana prison, outside Port Moresby.
