Somare: Explain Delay of Supreme Court House in Wewak

Justice and Attorney General Minister, Ano Pala, says he suspects that the K10 million allocated to build a Supreme Court House in Wewak, East Sepik province, was abused.

Minister Pala made this statement after East Sepik Governor, Grand Chief, Sir Michael Somare, asked why it is taking a long time to build the Supreme Court.

Minister Pala said, he is aware of the release of that K10 million.

However, he says he has no record of where that money went.

“I am aware of the release of the K10 million, but I do not have records where the money went,” the Justice Minister said.

Grand Chief, Sir Michael raised this question, as the Law and Justice Sector in East Sepik, will be opening their 2017 Legal Year in Wewak, on Friday, February 3.

Sir Michael stated that construction has commenced on the court infrastructure, but wants the Attorney General to explain what is causing the delay.

Pala then assured the East Sepik Governor that he will task his department to conduct an investigation into the release of that money.

Minister Pala promised the Grand Chief that he will advise him on the cause of the delay once the investigation is completed.
