A new Community Information Centre was recently opened in the North Bougainville Region.
The new development is UNDP’s initiative, supporting the ABG government and the national government to drive wider awareness on the Peace Agreement, and the coming referendum.
The centre will provide relevant information to educate, inform, and empower the locals on what their government is doing, and the important events.
Information provided by the centre will help the people to fully understand what the Peace Agreement is and the referendum. This will enable them to fully participate in national development initiatives as well as make beneficial choices that will bring sustainable benefits and support their government.
Billboards will also be used to deliver awareness information, as well as video showcasing, and footages.
UN Resident Representative, Roy Trivedy, said the centre will serve as an information hub for communities and provide them with accurate information about important issues such as the Peace Agreement, and the referendum.
He further added this centre will not only increase awareness and dialogue on the peace process and the referendum but will also help to increase the community participation, and discussion on the Sustainable Development Goals.
Trivedy has assured the people that UNDP will continue to support them, especially the drive to achieving peace.
