Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, has assured that the decision made U.S.A President, Donald Trump, to cancel the Trans-Pacific Trade Agreement will have no impact on Papua New Guinea, as PNG is not a signatory to the agreement.
He added that it would neither affect U.S participation in the APEC summit 2018, should Donald Trump accept the state’s invitation.
O’Neill stressed that the TPP Agreement should not be an issue at all because it was not an APEC agreement.
“Of course there are members of APEC who participate in that (Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement) arrangement between their countries but it is not exclusive to APEC members.”
He added, however, that it would not affect any other existing trade agreements and highlighted that PNG needs the investment these agreements attract, to support PNGs development.
