Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, has presented the 2017 Provincial budget to the Tutumang Assembly yesterday with a total of K424,413,300.
The total revenue is made up of the National Grants of K274,027; K106,153 from the internal revenue, and K44,233,100 that was carried over under the Former Years Appropriation.
These are outstanding monies/warrants received without cash. The money consists of K36.4million under PSIP, and K5,538,600 under the recurrent budget.
While the budget of K2.3million is the actual unspent cash carried over to 2017 due to the late release of the funds.
The key programs and projects will continue to be funded in 2017. The break up will see K14.1million allocated to all major economic infrastructure, maintenance and on key strategic roads.
Lae City road, drainage and grass cutting gets K7.5million, and K3million was allocated to the church partnership program.
Law and order is a major setback in the province this year, only K0.5million or K500,000 was allocated while K1million was allocated towards the 2017 National Elections.
The Provincial Government is looking at a number of key projects in the province for potential revenue investments.
The projects include the Wafi Golpu mining project, Ramu 2 Hydro Power, Wagang Fisheries Wharf, Javani Industrial Park, two new Fisheries investments in Malahang; and Nadzab Airport Land Development.
The Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, says education and health sectors are given top priority.
Naru, when presenting the budget assures the people of Morobe that it was a fair budget that aims to build capacity, ensuring services are delivered, economic development is promoted, and important social activities of value are supported.
The budget also aims to ensure that LLG and Wards are given opportunities to participate in developing their own communities for the provincial economic growth and prosperity.
